Celebrate International Women's Day!

Gone are the days of a man’s world that the rest of us just live in. Women, LGBTQ+, BIPOC and citizens all over the world have come together to step up and welcome a new age of equality in art, business, politics and society at large. Is there a long way to go? TOTALLY but, that doesn’t mean we can’t take a moment to celebrate! 

This year for International Women’s Day, Capri Blue wants to stand with all our CB babes to recognize that each diverse perspective, experience and voice make the world better for everyone. 

Fragrance may not be the first thing you think of when changing the world, and we get it, but it’s more than just a luxury. CB strives to create lux scents that motivate and empower women to be the best versions of themselves. We want our CB babes to express their unique selves with our fashionable and iconic products. We truly believe that self-care is the foundation of strength. 

We took a moment to talk to some of our favorite Insta baes to see how our products are helping them harness their ultimate girl boss power and #BeatBias! 

What Capri Blue fragrance empowers you and why? 

There's something really empowering about taking something so simple and classic like vanilla and adding extra complexity and mystery to it. I think [Havana Vanilla] represents a perfect mixture of who I am and who I want to be. 

Who are the women in your life that inspire you? 

I'm a proud daughter and sister of Chinese-Malaysian women, and every day I am constantly inspired by my mom, Caroline, and my two older sisters, Carmen and Simone. They constantly inspire me to do more, do better, and to be unabashedly proud of our cultural roots.  

When you’re feeling low, what’s your self-care remedy? 

When I'm feeling low, I know the best thing I can do for myself is reset. I shower, put on my favorite matching pajamas, light a candle (Capri Blue duh), and turn on the trashiest reality TV show I can find.

What Capri Blue Fragrance empowers you and why? 

As someone who is on a journey to managing my own anxiety, the Volcano fragrance is a scent that empowers me to keep going. Whether that’s just getting to the end day without crumbling or celebrating the fact that I had a great productive day. Either way, when I light my candle, I can rest knowing that I gave my very best at the end of the day and if I didn’t, there’s always tomorrow. 

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would you say? 

Oh gosh, I would say so much to my younger self, but I would stare into her eyes and tell her that “You are absolutely worthy, and it is okay to create your own path”. For so many years, especially in my 20’s, I lived a life where I thought I had to do all these things before I turned 30 such as marriage, the perfect house with the white picket fence, the perfect career, etc. Fast forward I have none of those things and I am so content in my singleness, my career, my small apartment, giving of my time and resources in my community, and in my daily journey to finding what makes “Nicole” happy. And you know what? I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m still worthy without all the things I don’t have, and I love creating my own path while inspiring other women to do the same.  

When you’re feeling low, what’s your self-care remedy? 

I have a “self-care remedy” list so when I’m looking at my list of options it’s like “okay, cool – let’s do this tonight”. Sometimes it looks like carving time to myself to reflect on why I’m feeling the way I feel, and then do something that I enjoy which could easily be coming home to watch the latest episode of Shark Tank, lighting my Volcano candle, settling in with a glass of wine on my couch to going to bed early and getting a few hours of extra sleep. I like to encourage other women to create their own “self-care remedy” list that they can refer to when they are feeling low. Just make sure it works for Y-O-U (and tweak it often).

What Capri Blue fragrance empowers you and why? 

I would say Crystal Pine inspires me the most because My Husband and I love going out to the mountains year-round (especially in the winter) to ski together. It inspires me to let go and be adventurous with the ones I love, plus holds so many wonderful memories! 

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would you say? 

I would definitely encourage myself to be more content in the present and stop worrying so much about the future. I spent so many years focused on the next accomplishment, or the next season of life, when I should have really just enjoyed where I was at. 

What outfit/accessory/make-up that makes you feel confident/bold/empowered? 

A wide brim hat always makes me feel confident! I think it can immediately take any outfit to the next level and makes you stand out in a room of people!

What Capri Blue fragrance empowers you and why? 

Volcano brings my mind peace, clarity, and happiness. It can make any day in my life brighter, and my home feel so much warmer. I moved into my first home with my boyfriend this year and it has truly become our signature home scent! There’s nothing like the scent of Volcano bringing a smile to my face.  

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would you say? 

I would tell my younger self “Relax, we got this.” At 21 years old, I’ve accomplished far more than my younger self could’ve imagined. I graduated college a year early, I’ve been working at my dream job for a year now, and I’m a successful content creator. Being a strong woman has come from being raised by incredible parents and being surrounded by amazing women every day, and that would make my younger self so happy.  

What’s your go-to outfit/signature outfit?  

I recently discovered the style that makes me feel the most “me.” My favorite color has always been pink, ever since I can remember, and I’m finally tapping into it in my style. Anything pink, feminine, and romantic makes me feel the most empowered. I’m hoping to grow my collection of princess dresses this year!

What Capri Blue fragrance empowers you and why? 

The Pink Grapefruit and Prosecco is my new favorite scent. I truly feel it suits me perfectly. The notes are sweet with a tinge of spice. The citrus is strong, but not overpowering. The fragrance travels perfectly throughout any space and ultimately becomes the dominant scent. If I were a candle, I would absolutely be Grapefruit and Prosecco—feminine and strong, unyielding in either capacity. 

Who are the women in your life that inspire you? 

My Mom, great- great- grandmothers, great- grandmothers, grandmothers, aunts, and cousins all inspire me so much. They are all incredibly intelligent, accomplished, beautiful women who have overcome any hurdles posed by race and gender and live(d) life with intention. In doing so, they have shown me I can accomplish the very same. They hold me accountable, they cheer me on, they tell me when I’m wrong, and they tell me when I get it right. The women in my life truly hold me up and not only encourage, but expect me to be my best self. The duality of their encouragement and expectation has led me on a journey to where I am today: pursuing all my dreams while living with intention and purpose. 

What’s your go-to outfit/signature outfit? 

My signature look will forever and always be a bold statement. Part of the reason I created Surgery And The City was to show women how to wear color and how to make a vibrant wardrobe more accessible. I truly feel at home in bright colors and bold prints: a floral dress, a heel with a pop of color, a fabulous graphic tee, and pretty much anything in orange. I am an introvert by nature, but my clothing has always been one of my favorite forms of self-expression. No need to say it all when my outfit is so loud! I love dressing it up just for me; creating looks that are classic, brilliant, and free.
